Sweet Pear & Steak and Eggs, located in Excel Bistro, the basement of the Excel Building on Financial Street, is the latest outlet of Beijing’s successful American Steak and Eggs restaurant franchise. A vast, canteen-like dining space, this new subterranean venue delivers good value breakfasts, lunches and early dinners for the thousands of office workers in the area.
甜梨/牛排/蛋(Sweet Pear & Steak and Eggs),位于金融街Excel Bistro地下一层,是北京一家新近开张的美国牛排蛋专营店。宽敞、食街风格的空间里,这里为这一地区数以千计的办公室白领提供物超所值的一日三餐。
Catering for the ethnically diverse white-collar crowd, the menu is split between Western staples and Chinese favourites. Every day, a Western or Chinese buffet is available. The Western buffet (38-49 RMB) features rotating specials like meatloaf, pizza, and lasagne, and includes soup or salad, a drink and fresh fruit. The Chinese buffet (20-30 RMB) offers considerably more choice. Customers can select from a multitude of cold and hot Chinese favourites, and again, each order comes with soup, fresh fruit and a drink. A variety of steamed buns, breads and pastries are available, all freshly baked in-house and generally costing under 5 RMB. To ensure the diners keep coming back, an optional loyalty card (300 RMB) grants hungry diners an extra 75 RMB credit.
为满足不同民族、不同口味的需要,这里的菜单分中、西餐两大类,不尽其详。每天分别提供中、西自助。西餐自助(RMB38-49)轮流提供肉类、比萨、烤宽面条,包括汤和沙拉、饮料或新鲜水果。中餐自助(RMB20-30)选择更为广泛。顾客可任意选择各式冷食热菜,同样地,每餐配有汤、新鲜水果和饮料。各类面食应有尽有,全部自产自销,通常不到五元钱。为吸引回头客,该店推出项目,一张300元的消费卡,可获得价值75元的额外积分。
In addition
to the buffet fare, customers can relax in the comfy, diner-style booths and
order a la carte from the wide-ranging menu. We started with a fresh salmon and
shrimp salad (70 RMB). The charred fish fillet was nicely seasoned and cooked to
a yielding juiciness, though let down somewhat by an uninspired bed of iceberg
lettuce, cucumber and hunks of tomato, in a cloying orange sauce. Much more
successful was the signature Steak & Eggs hamburger (35 RMB), a slab of
thick beef in a glazed homemade bun, generously topped with Cheddar cheese,
mushroom, peppers, onion and more, and served with a choice of fries, coleslaw,
salad or soup.
此外,消费者可以坐在轻松舒适的包厢里,从多种选择的餐单上,点一杯la carte.我们的试餐从一份三文鱼、大虾沙拉(RMB70)开始啦。正是吃嘉鱼片的季节,汁多味美。尽管生菜、黄瓜、和大块番茄浇了一层倒胃的橙汁,有点遗憾。更成功的是招牌菜牛排蛋汉堡(RMB35),一大厚片牛排夹在一个光滑的自制圆面包内,上面是车达奶酪、磨菇、胡椒、洋葱,还有其它选择,炸薯条、凉拌卷心菜、沙拉或汤。
The Chinese side of the menu offers a startling range of hot and cold dishes. A big plate of sticky, smoky pork ribs (42 RMB), infused with the fresh fragrances of ginger, scallions and garlic was a real treat, the meat falling off the bones in tender shreds. A dish of sweet and sour pork tenderloin couldn’t quite keep up, the crispy-fried meat erring on the dry side. Our seafood plate of shrimp cooked with cucumber, celery and peppers was light and summery, and helped balance out the heavy, sticky ribs.
中餐菜单提供大量的、令人惊叹的冷餐热炒。一大盘煎烤猪肋(RMB42)好吃不贵。猪肋经姜汁、大葱和蒜腌制,脱骨鲜嫩。酸甜古老肉,肉炸得有点干。海鲜是虾炒黄瓜、芹菜胡椒,清淡,有夏天的感觉,平衡了煎烤猪肋的口感。
On the drinks
side, two decent Chilean house wines are available at just 69RMB a bottle, and
standard cocktails come in at only 15 RMB a glass; about as cheap as you’ll find
in Beijing. Processing upwards of 300 lunch covers daily, the sheer volume of
customers at Sweet Pear & Steak & Eggs means cost savings as a result of
buying in bulk are returned back to the customer in low prices. True, the
spartan, functional dining space isn’t the place to take a date, but for sheer
value, variety and consistent, uncompromising quality, the folk at Sweet Pear
& Steak and Eggs are doing a worthy job.
喝的方面,有两种智利红酒,每瓶售价仅在RMB69,标准鸡尾酒每杯RMB15,几乎是全北京最便宜的。在Sweet Pear & Steak & Eggs,每天供应300元以上的午餐,集体购买意味更多优惠。当然,斯巴达式大空间就餐环境不适宜约会。若单纯追求质优价低、种类繁多,Sweet Pear & Steak & Eggs还是不错的选择。
